Overview
Golf De Morfontaine, with an average rating of 9,42, has been voted 'best golf club overall' in France in the Golfers' Choice Rankings. The rankings for best golf club are compiled based on numerous aspects influencing the quality of the golf club, such as the golf course itself, the overall impression of the club, maintenance, facilities such as practice facilities, clubhouse and the perceived value for money.
Golf de Morfontaine was established in 1913 by Armand de Gramont, Duke of Guiche. At the age of 34 the Duke obtained permission from his father to transform an old polo field in the park of Valliere into a 9-hole golf course, so he could play there with his friends. The great Scottish golf architect Tom Simpson was commisioned to design the original Valliere course, and later designed the Grand Parcours as well. Golf de Morfontaine is a beautiful heathland course and has 27 holes in top quality. It is a private club for the exclusive use of its members and their guests.
Golf de Morfontaine took the top spot in the rankings from Les Bordes Golf, who were number 1 in 2015. With a rating of 9,29 Les Bordes is now in 2nd place. Les Bordes Golf was designed by legendary architect Robert von Hagge. It has been crafted, tended and meticulously matured to perfection. Les Bordes Golf has consistently ranked as one of continental Europe’s top courses. The top-3 of best golf clubs in France is completed by Les Aisses Golf. This beautiful tree-lined course designed by Martin Hawtree has 27 holes and is situated in the heart of France, only 150 kilometers south of Paris.
